Telluride and Ouray

Tucked away in southwest Colorado, the San Juan Mountains is hands-down one of our favorite places for elopements in Colorado! Known as the Switzerland of America, this region is pure magic—think dramatic peaks, wildflower-filled valleys, hidden alpine lakes, and fewer crowds than other popular mountain spots.

This remote paradise includes Telluride, Ouray, Silverton, and Ridgway, each offering a unique mix of rugged adventure and romantic seclusion. If you and your partner crave an epic, off-the-grid experience, the San Juans deliver—especially if you’re up for some off-road exploring.

Why Elope Here?

Off-Road Adventure – Some of the most jaw-dropping locations require 4x4 access, making them perfect for thrill-seeking couples. Not a fan of driving? Guided Jeep tours let you soak in the scenery without the stress.
Secluded & Wild – Compared to busier mountain spots, the San Juans give you that true wilderness feel, making your elopement feel like an intimate escape.
Easier Travel Options – While it’s about a 6-7 hour drive from Denver, you can fly into Telluride Regional Airport (TEX), Montrose (MTJ) (1 hour from Telluride/Ouray) or Durango (DRO) (2 hours away) to cut down travel time.

Scenery & Vibes

Towering waterfalls
Panoramic mountain views
Hidden alpine lakes
Lush valleys & golden aspen groves

Epic Activities

Off-Roading- During warmer months, rent a Jeep Wrangler or OHV for some epic views that regular vehicles can’t get to-this is one of our favorite things to do, and we know of a lot of hidden gems!

Horseback Riding – Ride through alpine meadows, lush forests, and scenic valleys for a dreamy, Western-inspired adventure.

Hiking - There are numerous trails to explore, from easy, to moderate, to hard, that always delivers epic views and don’t be surprised if you see Elk or Moose along the way.
